MACKINAC  ISLAND

JUNE 10 - 18, 2011

 

Join the Share Club and Collette Vacations on this fasciniting tour to the Heartland of the Midwest, where  you will visit 3 States: Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan.  You begin your tour in Chicago, Illinois, affectionally known as "The Windy City".  The highlights of your locally guided tour include famous Michigan Avenue, the "Magnificent Mile", Millennium Park, and much more.  There will also be time to leisurely explore more of the city on your own.

After your visit to Chicago, you head for the green pastures of Wisconsin, "America's Dairyland" and spend the night in Green Bay.  Leaving Green Bay you depart for Mackinac Island.  On the way, enjoy Wisconsin's picturesque landscape dotted with farmlands, red barns and dairy cows.  Famous for its cheese, you will have an opportunity to sample or perhaps buy some of this cheese.   You will continue to Mackinac city where you will board your ferry and cross Lake Huron to incredible Mackinac Island where you will spend 2 nights at the glorious Victorian-era resort,  the Grand Hotel.  Both your hotel and the island itself are National  Historic Landmarks.

Since no automobiles are allowed on the Island, all guests arrive and depart the hotel by horse-drawn carriage.  As you approach the hotel, the first thing you'll notice is the hotel's seeminglyl endless front porch.  At 600 feet in length, is the longest porch in the world.  Five U.S. Presidents: Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, Gerald Ford, John Kennedy and Harry Truman have all stayed at the Grand Hotel. 

Enjoy a morning of relaxation in Mackinac Island before heading south to the Bavarian village of Frankenmuth.  After a good nights sleep, you  can visit Bronner's Christmas Wonderland, the world's largest Christmas store with its 96,000 sq. foot showroom.  This afternoon, enjoy a German wine tasting before feasting on a wonderful Bavarian meal.  Then its on to Southfield, your home for the remainder of the trip.  Visit Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum; view historic homes and famous American workshops including the Wright Brothers, Thomas Edison and Robert Frost.  This evening you will toast the end of a wonderful trip at a farewell dinner at the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House.

Join The ShareClub and Tally Ho Vacations on an amazing Collette Trip to Rome and the Amalfi Coast.  Your tour begins in Rome with a welcome dinner and a chance to meet your fellow travelers.  The next morning you may wish to go on an optional tour to the Vatican Museum and St. Peter's Basilica.  Later, enjoy a panoramic tour of Classical Rome. 

You depart Rome and journey south to the Amalfi Coast.  You will visit the picturesque village of Ravello and see the magnificent gardens of the Villa Rufolo.  Then on to Vietri-sul-Mare where you will spend the next five nights.   From this beautiful town, you will tour Sorrento, Paestum, The Isle of Capri and the famous ruins of Pompeii. 

You bid farewell to the Amalfi Coast and proceed to colorful Naples where you will visit the National Archeoligical Museum (one of the finest in the world).  Before departing for Rome, you will stop at a local winery at the foot of Mt. Vesuvius to savor wine and enjoy a typical Neapolitan lunch.
